free youth writing workshops

Chapter 510 offers free writing workshops for young writers ages 8-18, and we prioritize registration to Black, brown, and queer youth and families. Our programs are taught by experienced teaching artists and include our annual picture book writing class for elementary students, our fiction writing class for BIPOC middle school students, and digital storytelling and poetry for high schoolers, among others. Most of our programs culminate in a beautiful published book or audio production.

Students are also paired with caring writing mentors from our community who help each young writer get from first draft to publication.

If you don’t see a workshop that you can sign up for today, join our mailing list so you are the first to know when registration opens.

Currently, we run workshops after school in the fall and spring for 10–12 weeks. We currently do not offer summer workshops and camps.
