WRITING MENTOR FOR OUR WESTLAKE CREATIVE WRITING CLASS

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a writing mentor, you will work with 1–2 students to support the development and revision of their short stories and poems for the final class anthology. Those with experience or confidence working with this age group are encouraged to join; you’ll guide students through three pieces of writing in memoir, poetry, and fiction. Clear guidelines and structures for all in-class mentoring sessions will be provided by the lead teaching artist and Chapter 510 program staff.

Writing Mentors need to attend 6 in person writing mentoring sessions between October–April at Westlake Middle School (2629 Harrison Street, Oakland) as well as 1 online mentor orientation Thursday October 23th, 4–5PM. 

COMMITMENT DATES/TIMES

Tuesdays: 2:30-3:30PM (10/28/25, 11/4/25, 1/20/26, 1/27/26, 3/3/26, 3/17/26)

COMPENSATION:

Honorariums will be $300 for a total of 6 mentoring sessions including the mentor orientation and attending the final celebration in Spring 2026.
