D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and READ) Community Reading Event
Divine Radiance presents D.E.A.R (DropEverythingAndREAD) a family reading event centering Black girls & their families.
This space is designed to bring book lovers and future book lovers together to foster a deeper appreciation for reading and celebrating Black books.
Readers of all ages are welcome.
Youth and families can bring a book, borrow a book, or win a free book, or buy a book from Chapter 510’s Dept. Of Make / Believe or the Sistah Scifi vending machine located onsite. We will also have free books to give away courtesy of the Oakland Literacy Coalition
Activities will include reading together along with light music, refreshments, conversation, and opportunities to connect with the Oakland Public Library and community partner organization Sistah Scifi.
ABOUT DIVINE RADIANCE
Divine Radiance is a culturally aligned mentorship program designed to support the emotional wellness, creative expression, self-confidence, and professional success of high school-aged Black girls and gender expansive youth in Oakland, CA.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Founder & Program Director: Alie Jones (she/her) is a writer, artist, and Creole mermaid. She is the author of Saltwater Moonshine, a poetry collection that honors her matrilineal Louisiana Creole heritage through poetry, music, and reflections of love.
Teaching Artist: Brittany Tanner (she/her) is a music artist, mother, author, creative, and entrepreneur based in the Bay Area. Her work centers on community enrichment through healing arts.
Alchemy Wellness Coordinator: Evin Glaude (she/they) is your steward in healing & liberation through herbal education & tools, plant-based nourishment. Afro-centric crafts, and culturally expressive arts healing.
