CHAPTER 510 RELEASES Three year Strategic plan !

Chapter 510’s new strategic plan doubles down on our mission to elevate the voices of Oakland’s Black, brown, and queer youth. In this shifting political and social landscape, our young people need a safe community to express themselves, and we need to hear them. Building on a decade of engagement, our plan amplifies our commitment to holding space for youth.

Our plan to accomplish our mission over the next three years are built around three major goals:

  1. Recalibrating and deepening our relationship with Oakland Unified School District (OUSD)

By partnering with more schools and expanding programming, we are growing in alignment with educators’ needs. We are expanding into East Oakland and deepening support for teachers through professional development rooted in our creative writing curriculum. We are having more youth join us for creative engagements, and we’re sharing their bold work with wider audiences.

  2. Elevating our beautiful, award-winning Writing Center as a multi-generational area space for all of Oakland

In addition to serving youth through programming, we partner with community arts organizations to hold workshops and events in our Writing Center. We are excited to invite more youth to the space, invite our alums back for deeper engagement, and invite in new folks, young and old, to experience the magic of creating in a uniquely Chapter 510 way.

  3. Clear-eyed view of our finances to ensure our sustainability

In these uncertain times, organizational and financial sustainability is top of mind. To ensure that we can continue to be a beacon for our city’s arts and culture community, we are diversifying and strengthening our funding base, and boosting earned revenue through fee-for-service contracts and rental income from our Writing Center.
