The (Not So) Secret Poet Society: A HIGH SCHOOL POETRY WRITING Club

Day/Time: Wednesdays, 4:00 - 6:00pm

Dates: Feb. 7  - May 29, 2024

Students: 9th-12th Grade

Location: 546 9th Street, Oakland, CA 94607

Chapter 510 prioritizes Oakland-rooted BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students by creating a space and a place for them in our free programs and workshops. We acknowledge the effects of gentrification in Oakland and also welcome youth located in surrounding areas.

What’s better than one poet? A whole club of poets. Sign up to join Chapter 510’s first ever (Not So) Secret Poet Society, a writing and performance workshop series for youth poets of all experience levels to learn how to use their words as both tool and testament, bravely scribing a more liberated world into existence.

Together, we’ll read and write and play and practice, using our voices to learn about and support the various fights for climate justice and food and land sovereignty — and so much more!

Join this club if you’re interested in:

  • Meeting the (not so) secret poet in you

  • Writing your favorite poems ever & discovering the hidden power of your words

  • Learning how artists can support climate justice and food and land sovereignty

  • Making new friends along the way
