Hundreds of YOUNG OAKLANDERS come to Chapter 510 each semester to pen poems, write stories, and produce podcasts in our FREE programs. They have something big and brave to share with the world.
After writing countless drafts and taking in feedback from our teaching artists, mentors, and each other, students are READY TO SEE THE RESULTS OF THEIR WRITING – with your help! Friends, let’s help them become PUBLISHED authors and podcasters:

Our alumni include Leila Mottley, a NYT Bestselling novelist, and Aniya Butler, a teen named one of the “2022 Voices of the Year” by Seventeen for her poetry and climate change activism.

Dear Oakland Allies,
Youth in Oakland don’t often have a safe place to gather and express their creativity or a place where they can find caring adults to guide them to be exactly who they are meant to be.
At Chapter 510, our teaching artists and mentors work side by side with educators to provide a safe space and supportive community so Black, brown, and queer youth ages 8-19 can bravely write.
Here, youth have a chance to try new things, meet new people, and have a say. Youth come here to rewrite the future.
