First Friday Storyteller Series & Teen Poetry Open Mic

UPDATE: Oakland's First Friday event has been cancelled due to rain, but our programming will go on! Our two programs are INDOORS and will happen rain or shine.

CHILDREN'S STORYTELLER SERIES (6-7pm) 

Bring your young ones out for an early evening of storytelling, hands on arts activities, tiny bookmaking projects, food, music and more! Our storytelling portion of the night will feature Chapter 510 young authors Aida Ndiaye, Aniya Butler, Elijah Jimenez, and Jaden Colbert.

Plus: 
-Kids open mic! 
-Tiny bookmaking and arts activities for families 

-Costume box 

TEEN POETRY OPEN MIC (7-9pm) 

Bring your poems, verses, spoken word pieces and prose to share at our Teen Open Mic, hosted by Vice Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Samuel Getachew! This half of the night will feature a special guest performance by RISE Next Gen Voices. They are an Oakland-based a cappella group for young singers (ages 14-18) led by Lisa Forkish, renowned a cappella arranger and director of Vocal Rush. 

Open mic sign up begins at 7pm. First seven poets who sign up are guaranteed a spot in the open mic. Open mic begins at 7:30pm. Must be 19 years or younger.
