OAKLAND, CA — Join us on Saturday, October 21 at 7pm as writers Chinaka Hodge, Dave Eggers & Jeff Chang engage in a conversation about what makes a writing life with Chapter 510 student & 11-year-old poet Aniya Jenkins during Make A Writing Life, an event hosted by Chapter 510 & the Dept. of Make Believe.

Doors will open at 6pm, and the program will begin at 7pm. Admission is free, but a suggested $15 donation will go directly to supporting Chapter 510's programs. Tickets are available at makeawritinglife.eventbrite.com

The trio of notable authors come from distinct backgrounds, and Jenkins, a sixth grader who was awarded first place in the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Festival, will lead a discussion on how young aspiring writers can turn a passion into a career.

Come early to enjoy refreshments from Two Mamacitas Pop-Up Kitchen, music spun by DJ XCAIROCITOSX, bookmaking activities, and general make believing in the only magical bureaucracy that sells worry tubes and books written by Oakland youth.

Chapter 510 will also cut the ribbon on its brand new bookmaking studio. Funded by the Abundance Foundation, the studio is set to include a binding machine, paper cutter and all of the hands-on bookmaking tools necessary to create thousands of physical copies for students in the future.
