Extend Your Classroom Community

Supporting teachers in Oakland.
Chapter 510 provides teaching artists and trained volunteers to support teachers in the classroom and provide one-to-one writing support for their students. Chapter 510 helps students strengthen their creative and expository writing skills in order to cultivate creativity and create conditions for academic achievement.

If you are a OUSD educator or administrator and would like more information about in-school book projects, tutoring, and bringing your classroom in for a writing and bookmaking field trip or would like to pass along information about tutoring and writing workshops to your students and their families, get in touch with us or fill out our Classroom Sign-up Form.

Spring 2019 Storytelling & Bookmaking Field Trip Registration is Open!

Registration for our spring Storytelling Field Trips are open for OUSD 1st-5th grade classrooms!

Field trips are free and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-12:30pm (which includes eating lunch in our space!).

We will guide your students through collaborative storytelling, teaching narrative along the way. Stories will be live illustrated and typed by scribes, and each student will leave the building with a book approved by the Bureau of Far Off Ideas.

It's a fun flurry of creativity, which prompted one student to say, "This place changed me. I like writing now...for some reason."
